One of the biggest hurdles for those running a dollar store to clear is first identifying and then successful implementing actions to keep sales growing ever-higher. Many find one or two actions that seem to help, but then they are stalled trying to come up with other sales-boosting actions. The problem with this is even with one or two actions in-place sales will hit a plateau and stop moving upward. The status quo can never be accepted. It is critical to continually identify and implement tactics that keep sales rolling.
Always press for new, higher sales levels. In this article I present 4 simple, yet effective actions to get you started. As these actions are implemented remember to define and add new actions.
Action #1) Offer discounts or rewards to your most loyal shoppers.
If you are running a dollar store never lose sight of the targeted shoppers who frequent your store. They are always looking for a bargain. While selling products at the price you already offer is certainly a bargain, why not stir things up by recognizing and rewarding your most loyal shoppers. Reward them with a discount on their purchase for a day once they?ve reached a designated level of buying. Another option is for you to let them have their choice from several ?valuable gifts? you brought in just for this purpose.
Action #2) Present a daily special - everyday.
This is a great way to keep shoppers coming back. Always be on the lookout for shelf pulls, overstocks or other merchandise that is very deeply discounted. Purchase enough for an end cap or other display and then put it on sale for a price not normally seen. But do this for one day only. Repeat this process 7 days per week and your traffic will soon climb. This does take extra time and some good negotiating. However, if you are running a dollar store you will soon see the impact as total sales start to climb.
Action #3) Present a weekly special.
Here is a variation of the daily sale idea. Bring in 3-10 items each week and place them on sale at unbelievable prices. Make sure to purchase enough to have stock on-hand for the entire week. Make sure shoppers know these are one-time deals, there are no rain checks and these items are not likely to be coming back in the future.
Action #4) Create 2-for-the-price-of-1 specials.
What a great way to sell out of those slow-selling items hanging around your store while adding some excitement for your shoppers! Start matching two slow selling items into one package. Another option is to purchase two items that go together such as a bottle of household cleaner and a small package of sponges. If you work at it, you will find special pricing to allow this strategy to work. Shoppers will love the opportunity to save so much more money; and your store is the only place they can do it.
To your success when running a dollar store!
